Simple Seed Stitch Knitting Pattern for Beginners

This Simple Seed Stitch Knitting Pattern is a vintage pattern with a Stockinette background punctuated with alternating rows of raised purl seed stitches.

It is easy-level project created with a simple combination of knits and purls. It’s a great choice for knitting up blankets and pillows with a little pop of texture.

CLOSER LOOK AT THE SIMPLE SEED TEXTURE

This Simple Seed Stitch is not a reversible pattern, because the right side of the work displays the design, but the wrong (back) side does not.

This 8-Row Repeat Knit Stitch Pattern is an easy way to add a bit of texture and visual interest. The raised seeds are very subtle and not as obvious as the Bobble Stitch. If you have an easy Stockinette pattern but would like to add a touch of pizzazz, this is a great way to customize your project.

HOW TO KNIT THE SIMPLE SEED STITCH

The Simple Seed Stitch is an easy combination of simple Knit and Purl Stitches. Find my entire library of Knitting Techniques to help knit up this project.

_____

Begin by Casting On in Multiples of 4

Cast on any number of stitches onto your knitting needles in multiples of 4. For example, you may wish to cast on 16, 20, or 32 stitches as they are all divisible by the number four.

Row 1 (Right Side): * K3, P1 *
Knit three stitches, then purl one stitch. Repeat this pattern from within the asterisks until you reach the end of your needle.

Row 2 (Wrong Side): Purl All

Row 3: Knit All

Row 4: Purl All

Row 5: * K1, P1, K2 *
Knit one stitch, then purl one stitch, and knit two stitches. This allows the pattern to alternate rows of the raised seed stitches. Repeat this pattern from within the asterisks until you reach the end of your needle.

Row 6: Purl All

Row 7: Knit All

Row 8: Purl All

Continue knitting this pattern’s 8 rows until your work is the length you desire.
