This Waffle Stitch Scarf Neck Warmer is the perfect knitting project to keep you cozy. This design uses the Waffle Stitch Knitting Pattern and is an easy-level project of knits and purls knitted flat on straight needles.

Active Time: 10 hours
Additional Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 hours 20 minutes
Difficulty: Experienced Beginner

Materials

  • Yarn - Worsted Weight #4 in any fiber or color of your choice

Tools

  • Knitting Needles - Size 7 US (4.5 mm) straight needles
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Buttons

Instructions

Knitting Gauge: 16 Sts x 26 Rows in Waffle Stitch Pattern = 4” x 4” / 10 x 10 cm

Cast On 35 Stitches for 8 inch wide scarf; or
Cast On 26 Stitches for 6 inch narrow scarf.

  1. STEP 1: STARTER ROWS
    Row 1: Knit All
    Row 2: Knit All

  2. STEP 2: WAFFLE PATTERN
    Row 1: K2, * K1, P2 *, Finish with K3
    Row 2: K2, * P1, K2 *, Finish with P1, K2
    Row 3: Knit All
    Row 4: K2, Purl All, Finish with K2
    Repeat Rows 1 - 4 until your scarf measures the length you desire.
    (sample shown is wide version at 8" by 38" long)

  3. STEP 3: FINISHING ROWS
    Row 1: Knit All
    Row 2: Knit All

  4. STEP 4: Bind Off all stitches.

  5. STEP 5: Weave In Ends... and you are DONE!

SECURE SCARF INSTRUCTIONS

  • Either secure neck warmer scarf in place with brooches, pins, or buttons.
  • Buttons: Add your buttonholes during “Row 3: Knit All” of the Waffle Pattern.
  • Sample shown added the buttonholes on the 2nd repeat (at the 7th row of the waffle pattern).
