Seed Stitch Infinity Scarf Design

Active Time to Complete

The pattern as written takes approximately 6 to 8 hours to complete, depending on your knitting speed.

Knitting Gauge

8.5 stitches and 17 rows = 4×4 inches in the Seed Stitch texture.

Scarf Dimension

This full-sized adult knitted scarf is finished at 12″ wide and 48″ tall, before tacking together for the infinity structure.

No Blocking Required

With most of my knitting projects, I often suggest blocking with just a light spray of water, blocking mats, and some time spent relaxing the stitches overnight. However, this pattern knits up beautifully and does not curl at the edges. As a result, I feel blocking is unnecessary for this project. And, yes, the sample scarves pictured in this post are fresh off the needles, unblocked!

Seed Stitch Infinity Scarf Knitting Instructions

Step 1: Cast On

Cast 27 stitches onto your needle with the long-tail method.

Helpful tip: Begin Cast On with a 40-inch long yarn tail.

Step 2: Knit Scarf Rows in the Seed Stitch

All Rows: * K1, P1 *, K1
Repeat Seed Stitch Pattern on all rows until scarf measures 48”.

Helpful tip: If you are using different yarn colors (rather than self-striping yarn), I suggest knitting all stitches for your first row of the new color. This removes purl dash lines on the right side of your work… so easy!

Step 3: Finishing

Cast Off Stitches
Make sure to have approx 90” of yarn remaining on your yarn ball before binding off.

Bind Off Tack Edges Together
Using your tapestry needle, tack each of the shorter sides together using the mattress stitch technique.

Weave In Ends… and you are done!
