This Hurdle Stitch Knitting Pattern is a sweet knit and purl combination. It resembles the hurdles jumped in track class or horses. This rib pattern knits up with a thick texture, lies perfectly flat, and is a reversible pattern. This 4-Row Repeat Knit Stitch Pattern is a combination of 2 Rows of the Garter Stitch and 2 Rows of the 1×1 Rib Stitch Pattern. It’s also similar to the Irish Moss Stitch, but a more straight down version.
Keep reading to get all your materials, techniques, along with written and charted instructions to knit this pattern both flat on straight needles and in the round on circular needles. This pattern is also found on page 21 of my Knit Stitch Pattern Book!
CLOSER LOOK AT THE HURDLE STITCH
Let’s take a close look at our Hurdle Stitch Pattern, seeing exactly how those knits and purls are knitted together to make this pretty, simple pattern. This is a reversible pattern, meaning that both sides of your work, the Right and Wrong sides, are identical. I think this Hurdle pattern is perfect for a cozy, reversible scarf. It is on the top of my list for a pillow. This knitting project is an easy level project, perfect for everyone who has completed my Absolute Beginner Knitting Series.
This easy Hurdle Stitch texture became instantly popular with everyone, so I thought it would be fun to design a project using this simple stitch, too. Pillows give your home decor an instant pop of color, both indoors and out!
Feel free to use any size yarn and needles for your creative project. My Hurdle Stitch sample was created with size 7 US knitting needles and worsted weight yarn, along with a Tapestry Needle and Scissors.
