Different Heart Sizes

Using the exact same knitting pattern, you can have fun creating heart softies in different sizes. Simply change your yarn gauge and knitting needle size. Here are some samples I’ve knitted up to give you an idea of the size of your knitted heart.

Tiny Heart: 2″ x 2″ with #2 Sport Weight Yarn and #3 US Knitting Needle Size.

Small Heart: 3″ x 3″ with #4 Worsted Weight Yarn and #7 US Knitting Needle Size.

Medium Heart: 3.5″ x 3.5″ with #5 Bulky Weight Yarn and #7 US Knitting Needle Size.

Large Heart: 5″ x 5″ with #6 Super Bulky Weight Yarn and #11 US Knitting Needle Size.

Feel free to use any size yarn and needles for your creative project. My stitch sample was created with size 7 US knitting needles and worsted weight yarn, along with a Tapestry Needle and Scissors.

Knitting Instructions

STEP 1: MAKE TWO HEART ‘HUMPS’

Long Tail Cast On 3 stitches

Row 1: Knit All

Row 2: KFB, P1, KFB (5 stitches)

Row 3: Knit All

Row 4: KFB, P3, KFB (7 sts)

Row 5: Knit All

CUT YARN

MOVE FIRST HUMP DOWN YOUR NEEDLE

REPEAT ROWS 1 – 5 TO MAKE 2ND HUMP 

PLACE BOTH HUMPS ON THE SAME NEEDLE (14 sts)

STEP 2: KNIT BODY OF HEART

You have 14 stitches on your needle

Row 6: K1, P12, K1

Row 7: Knit All

Row 8: K1, P12, K1

Row 9: K1, SSK, K8, K2Tog, K1 (12 sts)

Row 10: K1, P10, K1

Row 11: K1, SSK, K6, K2Tog, K1 (10 sts)

Row 12: K1, P8, K1

Row 13: K1, SSK, K4, K2Tog, K1 (8 sts)

Row 14: K1, P6, K1

Row 15: K1, SSK, K2, K2Tog, K1 (6 sts)

Row 16: K1, P4, K1

Row 17: K1, SSK, K2Tog, K1 (4 sts)

Row 18: K1, P2, K1

Row 19: SSK, K2Tog

Row 20: Bind Off

STEP 3: KNIT ONE MORE HEART SHAPE

STEP 4: SEW TWO HEART SHAPES TOGETHER

Once you have knitted up two of your heart shapes, to make up the front and back of your sachet, simply tack them together with the right side of your pieces facing together with yarn using your tapestry needle.

STEP 5: FILL HEARTS WITH LAVENDER OR STUFFING

Turn your heart right side out and fill it up with either loose lavender, stuffing, or bits of yarn, and close them up.

Such a pretty gift to knit up for those you love.
